I am a PhD researcher in the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam, a member of the Hot Politics Lab, and part of the research team of the ERC project CRITICALTRUST. My research focuses on individuals’ trust in political institutions (e.g., governments, parliaments, and political parties). I study how political trust is shaped through socialization in schools, across generational cohorts, and through immigrants’ acculturation in host societies. I am particularly interested in whether and how these socialization processes transmit the norms of critical citizenship that people use to evaluate political institutions. On the side, I also co-lead the DEVIANT project, which examines how citizens’ democratic attitudes shape their reactions to democratic norm transgression by political elites. Methodologically, I work with large cross-national datasets and survey experiments.
