I am a PhD candidate in Political Communication at the University of Amsterdam, working on political psychology. I research how threatening socio-political issues, such as climate change, polarization, and immigration, are perceived, politicized, and coped with, bridging psychology, political science, and political communication. I am interested in how citizens cope with the emotions elicited by socio-political issues, and I investigate emotion regulation strategies and newly emerging coping strategies in a socio-political context. Furthermore, I study how feeling threatened is related to political ideology, how societal threat can be measured, and the role of emotions in politics and public opinion. I am part of the NWO-funded VIDI project Under Pressure. I studied at Leiden University (M.Sc. (research) in Social and Economic Psychology), Free University Berlin, and KU Leuven.
